Framing up some drawings to show at What If Gallery in Dartford.
The Life Drawing gallery has been rearranged so the newer work is at the top. Also found a few that had been overlooked and put them in.
The other day I signed up to Instagram as I thought it would be a useful tool in promoting my art. I'd not been on there before so I was also quite keen to see what all the fuss is about, after all, there are three hundred million people using it and it's now apparently bigger than Twitter.
It took a little getting used to as it's clearly designed to be accessed from a phone rather than a computer and my phone is far from the latest model. Using a tablet, though, seemed to be the best of both worlds. Nice large clear images and the same access as a phone. I signed up without adding any existing contacts or facebook friends and I thought I'd just see what happens. All was going well; I uploaded a few of my charcoal portraits and did the hashtag thing so they would show up in related lists and searches. Lo and behold; some people liked my pictures! So, today I was going to upload a few more ; a life drawing or two to start with and see if they proved popular. I uploaded one and hashtagged as before using as many relevant words as I could think of. Seconds later I was logged out of Instagram and when I tried to log back in was met with a message saying my account had been disabled due to violation of their terms. This happened too quickly for it to have been reported or even looked at by a moderator so I assume it's automatic. A quick bit of research on the net and I learned that certain tags have been banned on Instagram. Tags like 'Nude' and 'Naked'; both of which I'd used, quite appropriately I thought, to describe my latest charcoal drawing upload. So it would appear using these tags gets you instantly kicked off Instagram, no warnings, not just having your picture deleted but your whole account disabled. That's annoying. A fine time was had at the Brunswick Town Art Fair. A couple of showers threatened to spoil the fun but didn't amount to much in the end. It turned out to be a thoroughly pleasant afternoon in the sun (mostly) with lots of great art and lovely people.
